A fair comparison
Magic Touch Water Co. vs. our competitors.
No names, no knocks. These are the patterns homeowners tell us about, and the questions worth asking any company — including us.
Published price · a no-pressure conversation, phone or video first · licensed or insured install · pay when it’s done
Our competitors
Hour-long in-home presentation · high-pressure close · price negotiated at the table · deposit at signing
| Magic Touch Water Co. | Our competitors | |
|---|---|---|
| How you get the price | Published on this site; confirmed in writing by phone or video | After a presentation at your kitchen table |
| How we sell | Our team explains your options, tells you what you don't need, and gives you a written price. No "sign tonight" deals and no pressure to decide on the spot | Often a high-pressure close: a price that drops if you sign tonight |
| Time in your home | None needed for most city-water homes. If you'd like a visit, under 45 minutes | Often an hour or more — the test, the presentation, then back-and-forth over the price |
| Softening and filtration | Both in the standard system, plus the drinking-water system at the kitchen sink | Often a softener first, with carbon filtration priced as an add-on |
| Resin | 10% crosslinked resin, which holds up better to chlorine | Often standard 8% resin, which chlorine breaks down faster |
| Named components | Hankscraft ceramic-disc valve · ResinTech resin · Jacobi coconut carbon · Enpress tanks — components certified to NSF/ANSI standards, listed on the spec sheet | Usually “premium” or “high-grade,” unnamed |
| After the sale | 12-month workmanship warranty in writing; service calls answered within 48 to 72 hours by the same company that sold it | Some companies are hard to reach once the system is in |
| Ongoing costs | Salt and $200 a year for filters — both told to you before you buy | Filter and service costs sometimes aren't mentioned until after the sale |
| Financing | The cash price and the total you'd pay, shown side by side | A monthly payment presented as if it were the price |
| Ownership | You own it outright | Rental and lease plans are common |
Four questions to ask any water company
01
Can you give me a price before you visit?
Us: yes. City water is priced from your utility's published numbers and a few questions about your home. A visit isn't necessary for most city-water homes. Wells get a basic test first.
02
How long is the in-home appointment?
Us: for most city-water homes, one isn't necessary. If you'd like us to come out, the visit takes less than 45 minutes — no long presentation, no back-and-forth over the price.
03
Who actually does the installation — and who answers when something's wrong?
Us: a vetted licensed plumber or insured professional installer, working to our written standard. And the same company that sold you the system answers the phone in three years — with a 12-month workmanship warranty and service calls answered within 48 to 72 hours.
04
What will it cost me after year one?
Us: salt, and $200 a year for drinking-water filters. We tell you both before you buy, not after.
Industry habits we don’t follow
The price that drops if you sign tonight
A price that comes down as you push back was never the price. Ours is published on this site and confirmed in writing before anything is scheduled.
Testing your water to scare you
We test water too — so you know exactly how hard yours is and why treating it matters. Not to frighten you into a system you don't need.
A “lifetime warranty” with nothing behind it
Ask which parts it covers, for how long, and whether labor is included. Ours is listed part by part on our warranty page.
A monthly payment quoted as the price
A monthly payment isn't a price. Ask for the cash price and the total you'd pay over the full term — over a long term, the interest can add up to a large share of what the system costs. We show you both numbers.
Ask every company you talk to the same four questions. Then compare the answers.
